Do You Need a Degree to Become a Salesforce Admin?
Here’s a question that stops a lot of smart women before they even start: “Can I really do this if I don’t have a tech degree… or any degree at all? Do I need a degree to become a Salesforce admin?”
Short answer: you don’t need any college degree to become a Salesforce admin. This post clears up exactly what you need (and what you don’t) to become a Salesforce admin. Including whether your unrelated degree matters, whether you need a computer science background, and what actually gets you hired instead. We didn’t come from tech either, so we’re speaking from experience.
By the end, you’ll know what you really need to become a Salesforce admin.
Do you need a degree to become a Salesforce admin?
No. You do not need a college degree to become a Salesforce Admin. There are certified admins who started their careers straight out of high school with no college degree at all.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions, and it keeps capable women on the sidelines for no reason. Salesforce doesn’t gatekeep by diploma. The credential that actually opens doors is the Salesforce Platform Administrator certification. And anyone can earn that if they’re willing to put in the time.
So if you’ve been telling yourself “I’d love to, but I never finished college,” consider that excuse officially retired.
Can you get a Salesforce job without a degree?
Yes. You can absolutely get hired as a Salesforce admin without a degree. Employers care about your certification, your projects, and your ability to do the work, not your transcript.
In most Salesforce job listings, the “requirement” that matters is the certification plus evidence you can actually use the platform. Your Salesforce projects, an optimized LinkedIn profile, and the ability to talk through what you built are the most important things you need to land that first job.
Recruiters aren’t asking what you majored in. They’re asking, “Can this person solve problems in our Salesforce org?” Prove that, and the diploma question never comes up.
Do you need a tech or computer science degree?
No. You do not need a tech or computer science degree, or any coding background, to become a Salesforce admin. The role is built around clicks and configuration, not coding.
When we say Salesforce is a tech job, people tend to hear “must be a coder.” Not true. Being a Salesforce admin is a technical role you perform through menus and settings, and the skills that make you good at it are problem-solving, communication, and organization, not writing code.
If you’re worried about the learning curve, take a breath and read our post is Salesforce hard to learn. It’s far more learnable than you probably think.
Does an unrelated degree help or hurt?
An unrelated degree neither helps nor hurts your Salesforce career. But the experience behind it often helps a lot. Skills from teaching, health care, retail, or administrative work translate directly into being a great admin.
If you studied something that has nothing to do with tech, good news, that’s completely normal in this field. Some of the happiest admins we’ve met came from liberal arts, healthcare, and education backgrounds. Your degree isn’t wasted. The communication, organization, and people skills you built are exactly what employers want.
And if you’re already using Salesforce at your current job, that real-world exposure is worth even more than a degree. We show you how to leverage that experience in how to go from Salesforce end user to Salesforce admin.
What do you actually need to become a Salesforce admin?
To become a Salesforce admin, you need the Salesforce Platform Administrator certification, a few hands-on projects, a solid LinkedIn presence, and good problem-solving and communication skills. A degree is not on the list.
The certification proves you have the skills. Projects prove you can apply them. Your LinkedIn presence and network help recruiters and hiring managers find you. And your soft skills — listening, staying organized, calmly solving problems — are what make you genuinely good at the job once you’re in it.
Notice what’s missing from that list? A college degree. Every single thing on it is something you can build in a matter of months, starting from wherever you are right now.
So what’s really stopping you?
If it’s not a degree, it’s usually just the belief that you need one. And now you know you don’t.
Easy peasy.
You don’t need a college degree, a tech degree, or a coding background. You need a certification you can earn, projects you can build, and the everyday skills you almost certainly already have.
