10 Ways to Increase Your Chances of Passing the Salesforce Admin Exam
Sometimes you don’t need a whole study philosophy — you just want a handful of smart, practical things you can do to tip the odds in your favor. This is that list.
Here are 10 proven ways to increase your chances of passing the Salesforce Admin exam, from how you study to what you do on exam day. Some you may have heard; a few might be the exact tweak that gets you over the line. We failed this exam twice before we passed, so every tip here is one we learned the hard way.
By the end, you’ll have a checklist of easy wins to boost your odds.
What’s the Best Way to Increase Your Chances of Passing?
The best ways to boost your odds are to study according to the exam’s topic weights, practice hands-on, take timed practice exams until you hit 80%, and go in with a clear exam-day strategy. Small, smart adjustments add up to a big difference on test day.
Here are 10 specific things you can start doing right now.
1. Study the Heaviest-Weighted Topics First
Not all sections are worth the same. Four topics — Configuration & Setup, Object Manager & Lightning App Builder, Data & Analytics Management, and Automation — make up well over half the exam. Give them the bulk of your attention and you’ve boosted your odds before you even start.
2. Practice Hands-On in a Real Org
Watching isn’t learning. Build everything you study in a free practice org — create the flows, build the reports, set up the security. Hands-on practice makes concepts stick and prepares you for the scenario-based questions the exam actually asks.
3. Take Timed Practice Exams
Practice exams are the closest thing to a crystal ball. They show you how questions are worded, teach you to pace yourself, and reveal your weak spots. Aim to keep taking them until you’re consistently scoring 80% or higher.
4. Review Every Question You Miss
Don’t just note the right answer — understand why it’s right. Look for patterns in your wrong answers. If your misses cluster in one topic, that’s your signal to go back and shore up that section before test day.
5. Learn to Explain Concepts Out Loud
If you can explain a concept in plain English — how sharing rules work, how to build a dashboard, when to use which automation — you truly know it. If you can only recite a definition, you don’t know it well enough yet. Teaching it out loud is one of the best self-tests there is.
6. Answer the Easy Questions First
On exam day, do the test in passes. Answer the quick, straightforward questions first and “mark” the tougher ones to revisit. This locks in every point you’re sure of before the clock becomes a factor — and keeps you from burning all your time on one hard question.
7. Choose the Simplest, Most Efficient Answer
When two answers both look correct, pick the one that’s simplest, most scalable, and follows Salesforce best practices. The exam rewards the “most efficient” solution, so eliminate any answer that adds unnecessary complexity.
8. Manage Your Time
You get 105 minutes for 60 to 65 questions — under two minutes each. Keep an eye on the clock, don’t get stuck, and use the mark-and-return approach so you always have time for a second pass at the hard ones.
9. Don’t Take the Exam Until You’re Ready
Rushing is one of the most common reasons people don’t pass. Wait until you’re consistently hitting 80%+ on practice exams and can explain the core concepts confidently. Those signals matter far more than a date on the calendar. (Here’s how to know when you’re ready.)
10. Show Up Calm and Rested
Don’t cram the night before — your brain needs rest, not overload. Get a good night’s sleep, have a calm pre-exam routine, and take a few deep breaths before you start. A clear, calm mind will serve you far better than one last frantic study session.
Put It All Together
Any one of these tips helps. All ten together stack the deck firmly in your favor — smart studying, real practice, a solid exam-day strategy, and a calm mindset.
