How to Stay Motivated While Studying for the Salesforce Admin Exam
Starting to study for the Salesforce Admin exam is the easy part. Staying with it — week after week, when work is loud, the kids need you, and the couch is right there — that’s the real challenge. If your motivation has already dipped once or twice, you’re not failing. You’re normal.
This post gives you honest, practical ways to stay motivated through the whole study journey — how to connect to your “why,” build habits that don’t rely on willpower, and keep going when you want to quit. We studied Salesforce around burned-out, exhausting jobs, so we know what it takes to keep showing up.
By the end, you’ll have real tools to stay the course all the way to certified.
How Do You Stay Motivated While Studying for the Salesforce Exam?
To stay motivated studying for the Salesforce exam, connect your studying to a clear personal “why,” set goals that excite you, build consistent study habits so you don’t rely on willpower, track your progress, and lean on a community so you’re not doing it alone.
Motivation isn’t a personality trait you either have or don’t. It’s something you build — with the right systems around you. Let’s set those up.
Why Do People Lose Motivation While Studying?
People usually lose motivation for a few predictable reasons: they’ve lost sight of why they started, they have no schedule pulling them forward, they’re studying in isolation, or progress feels too slow to see.
The good news about predictable problems is that they have predictable fixes. Once you know what actually drains your motivation, you can build in the exact things that protect it. So let’s go through them.
Connect to Your “Why”
The single most powerful motivator is a crystal-clear reason for doing this. When studying feels hard, a vague “I guess I want a better job” won’t carry you. A vivid, specific “why” will.
Get concrete about what certification actually gives you. Is it finally earning a stable salary? Working from home in your sweatpants and picking your kids up from school? Feeling proud and in control of your future instead of anxious about it? That’s your fuel. Make a “why” board filled with photos of what your life will look like after you’re certified and land that higher-paying job — and keep it where you’ll see it every day. When motivation dips, seeing your why reignites it.
Set Goals That Actually Pull You Forward
Vague goals produce vague effort. Specific, exciting goals pull you toward them. So get clear not just on the exam, but on the whole life you’re building.
One exercise we love (borrowed from author Jack Canfield): write down 10 things you want to be, 10 things you want to do, and 10 things you want to have. It sounds simple, but it turns “pass an exam” into “build the life I actually want” — and that’s a much stronger thing to study for. Keep the list somewhere visible and let it remind you what all this effort is really for.
Build Habits So You Don’t Rely on Willpower
Here’s the secret that changes everything: you can’t count on motivation to show up every day. So don’t. Build habits instead, and let them carry you on the days motivation doesn’t.
Study at the same time and place so it becomes automatic — a thing you just do, not a decision you have to win every day. Even 30 focused minutes counts. Consistency beats intensity every single time, and a small daily habit will get you certified faster than sporadic bursts of inspiration. We break down how to build this into a real plan in how to create a Salesforce study plan that actually works.
Track Your Wins
Motivation fades fastest when progress feels invisible. The fix is simple: make your progress visible.
Check off each topic as you finish it. Note your practice-exam scores climbing over time. Celebrate the small stuff — your first flow built, your first practice test passed. Those little wins are proof you’re moving forward, and that proof is what keeps you going when the finish line still feels far away.
Reward Yourself Along the Way
Don’t wait until you pass the exam to celebrate. Build in rewards along the way, so you have something to look forward to at every milestone.
The exam covers eight topic areas, which makes a perfect built-in reward system: each time you finish one, treat yourself. Go for a walk in the park, get a mani-pedi, see a movie, grab lunch with a friend, take the afternoon off. Little celebrations after each section turn a long study slog into a series of small, satisfying finish lines — and give your brain a reason to keep coming back for the next one.
Keep Your Energy Up
Motivation isn’t only about discipline — it’s also about doing the things that genuinely make you feel good and inspired. When your tank is running low, refill it on purpose.
Put on music that fires you up before a study session. Read something that reminds you why you started. Do whatever flips your motivation switch back on. And here’s the one most driven women forget: give yourself a few days off now and then. Rest isn’t quitting — it’s how you avoid burning out and actually make it to the finish line. A short, intentional break beats grinding yourself into the ground and giving up entirely.
Don’t Do It Alone
Isolation is a motivation killer. When you’re stuck with no one to ask and no one who gets what you’re going through, it’s easy to quietly drift away from your goal.
Find your people — whether that’s the welcoming Salesforce community online, a study buddy, or a course with built-in support and mentors. Having someone to ask when you’re confused, and someone to cheer you on when you’re discouraged, makes the whole thing lighter (and a lot more fun).
What to Do When You Want to Quit
You will have weeks where you study zero minutes and wonder if you should just give up. That’s not failure — that’s being a human with a real life. The only true way to fail is to stop for good.
When it happens, don’t spiral into guilt. Just recommit. Look at your why, your goals list, your progress so far — and take the next small step. Remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. A slow week doesn’t erase your progress; quitting entirely is the only thing that does. Keep coming back, and you’ll get there.
Want the Whole Motivation System Done for You?
Everything above works. And if you’d like it built into your study process — so motivation isn’t something you have to white-knuckle on your own — we put it all in one place.
👉 The Salesforce Certification Starter Kit ($27) includes a focus-and-motivation module that walks you through setting up your goals and dream board, the be/do/have exercise (with a fill-in form), and simple systems to keep you consistent and on track — right alongside your step-by-step study plan. It’s the difference between hoping you’ll stay motivated and having a plan that keeps you moving.
Not ready for the kit yet? Grab our free Salesforce Certification Roadmap so you can see the whole path — because knowing exactly where you’re headed is motivating all on its own.
You started this for a reason. Keep that reason close, take it one small step at a time, and trust that the woman you’re becoming is worth every study session. You’ve got this — and we’ve got you.
